The Spirit of the Wolf: Karen Kay

Grey Coyote is the "chosen one" for his tribe. Long ago, a village killed the children of the Thunder god and was cursed to live the existence of the undead. Every generation, a brave is given the chance to break the curse and deliver his tribe back to the land of the living.

Lady Marietta Welsford was placed into servitude by her uncle, but has recently learned that she is the rightful heir to her family's estate in England and is attempting to return to England in time to claim her inheritance. After hiring a French guide to lead her across the west to St. Louis where she plans to gain passage back home, she is unknowingly gambled away by her guide and comes under the protection of Grey Coyote.

Sparks fly and tempers flare as Grey Coyote finds that Marietta is part of the riddle that he must solve to free his people, however Marietta has her own agenda in mind in order to regain what is rightfully hers back in England.

While I was excited in the beginning of the book to read of the cursed tribe, and figured that the story would center on the mystical, I was more than a little let down to watch as the story followed the duo across the prairie, dodging enemy tribes. Needless to say, it became a bit monotonous to read of their travels. Eh, so-so. Definitely not deserving of a prized spot on my "keeper" shelf.

On to the next tale.......
