Jack Norton is a GhostWalker, a genetically enhanced sniper with a merciless sense of justice, a phantom welcomed by the anonymity of the night. But a mission to rescue his brother in the jungle has left him vulnerable to rebel forces. His only salvation is his power of telepathy. Then he meets Briony, an unusual beauty on a mission of her own. But they share more than the sweltering heat...

Briony shares the GhostWalker powers. Yet she's different. She doesn't know what she is, or what she's capable of. But her enemies do. And Jack and Briony's flight will take them into a frightening conspiracy of mind and body - across the globe and into the heart of darkness, where the shocking truth is something neither of them could have foreseen - or can escape.

Let me start off by saying that I love this book. It's not absolutely perfect, but it's strong points more than make up for the pitfalls.

The story starts off a bit slow during Jack's jungle mission. While action packed, much of this area of the book seems to be page filler as, while introducing important aspects to Jack's character and situation, it is loaded down with fighting and tactical maneuvers, which is not completely necessary to the plot. After about 30 pages, however, Jack and Briony's adventure begins and the story takes off from there. The plot of this book is extremely intense and that intensity comes at you threefold: the danger, the romance, and the relationships with secondary characters. Along the way, there are a few twists thrown in which you don't expect and which also set up the story for the next book in the series.

Besides the slow start, I also have grievance with the dialogue between Jack and Briony. At first it is incredibly impassioned, which arouses our insight to the strong bond the two share, but after awhile it became sickening, almost like incredibly rich dessert; tastes wonderful, but after so many bites you just can't take anymore. Additionally, it was disconcerting to see the story end with no mention of what became of Briony's brothers when so much of her character and a large part of the plot was based on her familial ties and the underlying issues that stemmed from her being raised with that family.

To sum it up, the book has its faults, but it's still an extremely good read. It will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning because you can't put it down. I can only hope that the sequel to this book is just as good.

Oh, and the hot guy on the cover is a huge bonus too. With so many romance covers showing Fabio look-alikes with wind-blown hair, it's about time we're given a cover to match the steam within it's pages. Oops..did I just write that?

Happy reading!
