In a continuation of Midnight Secrets, thought-reader Andromeda Andrews is drawn to Lord Alexander Killdaren, twin brother of her sister’s husband, Sean. Cursed from birth, the twins are destined to destroy each other and therefore stay far away brooding in their respective gothic castles. Andrie and Cassie, her sister, are determined to bring these two back together, ancient Curse be damned.
Alex’s reputation precedes him in the local village, after being accused of murdering Andrie’s cousin, but Andrie cannot help being drawn to Lord Alex, since she can’t read his thoughts. What she does catch a glimpse of leaves her breathless and knowing he isn’t a killer. But even that belief is called into question when young women begin turning up dead in bloody Druid sacrifices…and Andrie may be next.
This book is a prime example of why I don’t read historical romance. Way back when, my first few outings gave me a clue as to how formulaic they are. I see nothing much has changed other than the author’s name and a new twist of the paranormal in a hope to jump genres. I’m not falling for that.
Let’s see…the dark, tortured hero? Check. A maiden soon to be imperiled by an unknown villain? Check. Villain not revealed until the very end? Err, not exactly. I had him (actually “them”) figured out by the third chapter. Euphemistic sexual parts? Got that too, although I have to give the author props for calling his manhood the “Jolly Roger” but it comes a little too late in the book to be appreciated.
The worst part was the narration by our lovely, blond heroine. Oh no, this can’t be good. It’s destined for the trash when she called it her “very sensitive place.” For all I know, that could be her earlobe. Fortunately, there was a penis in the area so I got the gist of the locale.
Mind you, this is solely my opinion. This author may be the best thing since indoor plumbing and I’d have no idea. To me, it’s unoriginal tripe but to a die-hard romance reader, it’s a solidly entertaining guilty pleasure.
