Bond of Silver: Rebecca York
...two lovers whose bond can save a doomed island paradise. Review: The doomed island in question is Atlantis, which could have been a fresh idea on the paranormal front. Unfortunately, there is nothing new under the sun. The mother was an absolute bitch witch throughout the first 75 pages. Don't get your knickers in twist, though. All is forgiven by page 83, and everyone is one big happy New Atlantean family. To add some kind of heat to this little ditty, our fair maiden can stroke off her soul mate with her mental hands, even if he’s in Greenland and she’s in Tahiti. Neat trick, but the rest was pretty unbearable.
Red Skies at Night: Diane Whiteside
Review: Travis is a cop on the hunt for his former partner's killer. Gillian is a vampire who holds the info Travis needs, and could bring down a mobster's dynasty. It's another facet of the vampire world in Bond of Blood. The most inventive and interesting of the lot, with serious attention to detail and time spent on character building. I truly had a feel for Travis and Gillian, the danger they faced, and the sexual bond. A nice piece of work, and it’s a shame it’s mixed in with the rest of these novellas.
Come Moonrise: Lucy Monroe
Review: Tormented werewolf, Ty, in love with his tortured best friend, Frankie, since forever, but oh god! he’s sworn not to mate with a lowly human. That doesn’t preclude him from screwing her until she can’t walk, pack law be damned. This would have been a lot more interesting with Frankie as the wolf.
Beyond Limits: Susan Kearney
Review: Yet another Atlantis rendition, and I'll let it speak for itself: ”She only knew that if his lovemaking had been a song, it would have been her favorite. If his lovemaking had been a movie, she would have watched it a hundred times. If his lovemaking had been a book, it would have been a number-one bestseller.”
My copy of the book didn’t hit the bestseller list. Instead, it received the rather rare honor of being thrown across my living room after that bit of prose.
I should sue for damages.
