Every Breath You Take: Judith McNaught
Kate Donovan just lost her father and inherited the resturant. Her boyfriend, Evan Bartlett, decides she needs to get away and whisks her off to the beautiful island of Anguilla. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving in paradise he has to return to the states for a case he's working.Mitchell Wyatt just found out he has a family that abandoned him because he was an illegitimate child. After his father's death, William Wyatt begins searching through his father's papers and comes across all the documentation on Mitchell and goes to find him. Shortly afterward, William disappears.
Mitchell is building a house on Anguilla. While down there checking things out, Kate accidently spills a Bloody Mary on him. Kate offers to pay for his shirt but he tells her dinner would be cheaper and he would accept that as payment for ruining his shirt. After a whirlwind romance she goes to the villa intending to break it off with Evan, but he starts to say horrible things about Mitchell so she trys to call him at the hotel, but he's already checked out after receiving a phone call that they found his brother's body.
Evan takes Kate home to Chicago, convinces her to become engaged to him, and then all hell breaks lose.
This entertaining story is well-written, fast-paced, and deep characters. The only problem I had with this book is in one chapter you find out Kate's pregnant and in the next chapter her son is 22 months old. There is no preamble or warning, it just leaps through time. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I actually stayed up into the wee hours of the morning, because I just had to know how it all worked out. I couldn't believe who the killer actually was, it was such a shock.
All in all if your looking for an entertaining plot, this is a definite read.
