12390157.gifLove is a powerful emotion. It can lead people to great good or great evil depending on their motivations. In a world where elves have secluded themselves from all humankind and undead walk only in human form Magiere and Leesil have found a love bond that no one could have counted on. But will her half-vampire nature and his half-elven nature be the tie that breaks them when the truth is discovered about why they were created, and what they are eventually destined to do to each other?

Magiere and Leesil have struggled through the snow-choked mountains to gain entrance to the elven lands where Leesil's elven mother has been held hostage for the better part of a decade. They've been accompanied by Wynn, a human sage and their protector, Chap who is a Fay-born wolf breed called the majay-hi. He is able to connect telepathically to Wynn and guards his charges carefully against the dangers that await them. Unfortunately, the dangers of the mountains are small compared to what awaits them in the elven lands, where no human has ever set foot and indeed cannot set foot without risk to their mental and physical well-being. And when Magiere's dhampir (half-human/half-vampire) nature is revealed the threat is increased a hundred-fold. Chap finds himself stretched thin as he attempts to protect his party and finds himself falling in love with the beautiful Lily, a wild-bred majay-hi who doesn't understand his connection with the mortals. And as Chap and his charges struggle to survive in the elven lands, Magiere's brother Welstiel and his servant Chane, both Noble Dead, search to find an artifact that will remove Welstiel's craving for human life. Unfortunately for Magiere she is integral to her brothers search and he will bring her to him no matter the cost. Is the combined strength of the group enough to overcome their weaknesses and secure their freedom?

This is the fifth book in the Noble Dead series and I've not read the preceding books so I was admittedly a little lost. That being said however I loved it. It was pure fantasy set in a new world and had the usual humans, elves, and dwarves, but I liked the addition of undead to the mix. It made for a fascinating story. The characters were well-developed and made me want to learn more about them. I will most definitely be picking up the previous installments as these seem to be well worth it.
