Wicked Ties: Shayla Black
Rating: 1 star
Morgan O’Malley – host of cable sex talk show “Turn Me On” – is being hunted by a stalker. In an effort to elude this nutjob, she runs to Texas. As an added bonus, a side trip to Louisiana should make it even more difficult when she arrives to interview a dominant for her season premiere on D/s. It’s a good thing she has Jack Cole around on that day, because her stalker tries his best to kill her.
Jack’s profession is bodyguard to the rich and famous, but Morgan doesn’t exactly feel all that safe. Morgan has a hidden side to her sexual preferences, and Jack’s the perfect person to fill her desires. On the run from the stalker, Jack whisks her away to bayou country where he sets upon a course to bend fair Morgan to his will. However, his motives are far from pure: he’s hellbent for revenge against an old friend, and Morgan is in his crosshairs.
Other than the nonstop hot/steamy fuck factor, a pair of decent secondary characters that need higher billing, and a stalker whose identity isn’t a mystery, there is nothing left to work with. At many points I found myself laughing out loud at the author’s D/s world and inability to think through a sex scene from a reasonable perspective or time frame. The cover blurb says “slowly and seductively,” but we must be using different time zones because two days does not constitute “slow.” And for a hostess of a sex talk show, Morgan hasn’t got a clue about anything outside of the missionary position.
The main characters are one big cliché: Jack is an alpha male; Morgan is smart, driven, and strong. My, this would have worked like magic! However, I had to endure page after page after PAGE of her incessant inner whining about everything from ruining two thongs from being wet all the time to her mother thinking she’s a freak to so-and-so calling her a whore. For God’s sake, shut the hell up. And really, he’s no different with his ill-fated, petty game of revenge.
Unfortunately, they don’t make ball gags for the brain. Not yet, anyway.
