All Miranda du Val wanted was the farm her father had built, and to be allowed to live on it peacefully. However, she was born into the wrong times. Tried and hung as a witch, she swore revenge and cursed those who would fear what they did not know:
“I curse this town, and all those who have driven this madness. Most fixedly, I curse the Collins family who took my farm but will find no happiness there. The fields are poisoned and the stream a bog of snakes. And those who take my life shall never prosper, but will have blood to drink for all eternity!”
Hundreds of years later, Barnabas Collins is suffering from the same curse. Although slowly breaking free from the plague that trapped him for most of his life with the help of his fiancé Dr. Julia Hoffman, his past creeps back upon him when a woman that looks stunningly like his former vampire lover comes into town, rebuilding the very home he burned down earlier... with stunning accuracy.
As the plot delves deeper with the twists and turns of both Miranda and Barnabas’ life, both things that should never be and those that could never be, mix as the past and present intertwine.
This was my introduction to the Salem Branch series. I never even knew such a TV series existed, and still haven’t watched it on DVD. In addition, I have an ongoing fascination with the Salem Witch Trials, and taking from them with a step further absolutely dragged me into her imaginative world. Despite the bouncing back and forth between times, it kept me glued to the pages. After all, who doesn’t like a good cliffhanger?
With vampires, werewolves, and witches, Lara Parker’s book is sure to keep you drawn in through the entire thing…and maybe even longer.
