Dark Room: Andrea Kane
After finding her parents’ murdered bodies at a young age, Morgan Winter has done a fairly good job of putting her life together. The confessed killer is safe behind bars, her matchmaking business is booming, and the family that took her in after the death of her parents is by all accounts her family now. It’s been 17 years and she still has nightmares of that horrible night, but it suddenly gets worse when she finds out the real killer is still at large, and what peace of mind she ever had is lost.
Enlisting the help of private investigator Pete “Monty” Montgomery, who was the detective on the case 17 years ago, Morgan is determined to be involved and help as much as she can in finding the real killer even if it means having to relive that horrible night.
This mystery kept taking different turns, and every time I thought I had a handle on what happened, something else was thrown in to keep me on my toes. It’s a basic whodunit, but I like the way you’re there learning the details as if right along with the characters as they dig into their investigation.
You can’t help but like them all at first, even the privileged family that raised Morgan. Then you start to wonder about some as the details start to emerge. Through all that’s going on, Morgan bonds with Monty’s son Lane, who’s high tech photography equipment plays an important role in finding who’s responsible for the death of Morgan’s parents.
This book was fast, engaging, and there was a lot of involvement with a wide range of interesting characters. I would have to say the only thing I didn’t really like was that at the end you don’t know that justice has really been served, but a good read nevertheless.
