The Dream-Hunter: Sherrilyn Kenyon

The search for Atlantis has inspired many individuals, and ruined more then a few, over the years. The idea of Atlantis has long been a joke in academic circles and no self-respecting scientist puts any stock in the idea. For Megeara Kafieri the hunt for Atlantis drove her father, mother, brother, uncle, and aunt to early graves. Will death be her fate as well as she pushes the search and finds a man that she thought lived only in her dreams?
Dr. Megeara Kafieri had long ago put thoughts of Atlantis behind her when she left her family to return to school in the States. At her father's deathbed she makes a promise to continue the search, even though she doesn't believe. After she receives his final gift her belief in Atlantis is reaffirmed and she pushes forward, risking her career and reputation to prove her case. Her days are spent combing the Aegean but her nights are filled with dreams of Arikos, a dream-hunter who has become obsessed with Megeara. As a Skotos, or dream-hunter, Arikos has no emotion of his own and therefore must feed off the emotion of his charges. The feelings and passion he receives from Megeara are too strong for him to resist and so he makes a deal with Hades. He will trade two weeks as a human in exchange for Megearas soul. What Arikos doesn't count on is falling in love with Megeara. After she fishes him from the sea, and as his story unravels before her, the two become bound up and find themselves fighting against those that would return him to Olympus and those that will do anything to keep her away from Atlantis. Can they survive long enough to make it through when even gods are bent on keeping them apart?
Dream-Hunter is the first in a new series from Sherrilyn Kenyon but it is tied to her Dark-Hunter series. The author weaves the tales of ancient gods and goddesses into a modern framework and does a very good job of it. The deities are given a very human approach but it works well. They blend and move among the humans, sometimes guiding and sometimes interfering. I enjoyed the dialogue and even the love scenes were well done and entertaining. I'm looking forward to the books that should follow in the series.
