Beyond the Hedge: Roby James

517sX0NU5BL._AA240_.jpgWhen corporate executive Jennifer Paul stumbles across the mystical boundaries of Clipton Magna, a time-lost land from the era of King George III, she finds herself conversing with a talking cat, taking advice from an owl, and fighting an undeniable attraction to Jeremy, the handsome heir to the local lord. This magical realm is beautiful and it's people warm, but Jennifer is a twenty-first-century career woman who's itching to make her mark in the "real" world--our world. She wants to go back.

But the strange rules and odd spirits that rule Clipton Magna bind Jennifer more closely than she knows. Her decisions--to stay or go, to love or not--threaten to alter the fate of this enchanted oasis, and just might affect the modern-day world in unexpected ways as well....

After reading the blurb, I knew this book was either going to be spot-on or would miss the mark by a mile. Unfortunately, in this case it was the latter. The idea behind the plot is original and had the possibility to become an unforgettable tale, however the writing didn't pack the punch to bring that possibility to fruition.

The whole premise behind how Clipton Magna came to be was explained, but not well enough as I was left with more questions than answers. The way the situation was explained left the whole thing one big jumbled mess that confused me and drew attention away from the rest of the story as I was searching for clues throughout the rest of the story that would further explain how the whole deal works. More detail behind the phenomenon would have worked wonders to round out the story.

A lot more was also needed behind the romance. There was too little development of the relationship between Jennifer and Jeremy to make Jennifer's life-altering decision believable.
