Draw Down the Darkness: Naomi Bellis
In order to save his family from ruin, Nicholas Saville, Viscount Redfern, has secretly pledged his sword to King George's spymaster, Sir Alaric. Espionage suites him well, except that his duties take him far away from England and his betrothed.
Heartbroken by her beloved's long and unexplained absences, Helen Barrett breaks off their engagement. Soon she is courted by a powerful earl, a man well versed in both magic and treason. He inspires Helen's utmost distrust until he gives her a stunning sapphire necklace-a gift that traps her under his dark spell.
Redfern's mission is to stop the murderous Hellfire League, but he will risk that and more to save-and win back-the woman he adores.
While this book is better than average, it is missing the speed and adventure that Ms. Bellis' first novel, Step Into Darkness, contained. This novel was just missing that spark that jumps out at you, grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go. The idea behind the Hellfire League has the chance to really pull you in, but only creates a sense of intensity during the final climax. There was little drama throughout the rest of the book to make you want to keep reading to get the next clue or tidbit of information to see where the story will take you next.
All in all, a decent story written in the common style of today's romance novels. I leave the decision in your hands.
