51BLMbkTrsL._AA240_.jpgJohn Driscoll has laid the ghosts of his past to rest. He's ready to start over--both personally and as a New York City homicide detective. But it seems that a serial killer has other plans for Driscoll…

In the follow-up to the excellent Bone Thief, Driscoll is a grieving husband and trying to put his life back together after burying his wife. But a killer is slaughtering his victims and leaving them in gruesome tableaus around tourist spots in New York City. Scalped, no less. What’s even more disturbing than that? This killer thinks they’re “masterpieces.” Driscoll doesn’t have time for grief -- or his growing relationship with his partner, Margaret -- until this sick twist is behind bars.

Sick, twisted, and gruesome. Really, those are the only words I can think of to describe this maniac. However, this is not ordinary murder mystery with a deviant serial killer. As Driscoll’s crack team of investigators begins to uncover the true identity, it’s far more complex than it seems on the surface. The twists and turns of this story are incredible, and the killer’s motivations seem weirdly understandable (if you’re sick and twisted.)

Driscoll’s character comes into his own in a way, even though he is buried under a mountain of grief. The potential of a “life” is within sight, and there’s an opening left at the end for some kind of relationship with Margaret…or so I hope.

I loved Bone Thief, and this sequel doesn’t disappoint. It’s far from predictable, and you’ll be in for a wild ride with this taunt plotline and fast pace. Make plans to be up all night until the last page is turned.
