Moon Awakening: Lucy Monroe
When Emily Hamilton's family is ordered to send a woman to the Scottish Highlands for marriage to the laird of the Sinclairs, Emily volunteers in order to save her younger sister from such a fate. But at her new home, the only friend she finds is the laird's sister - especially after Emily's stubborn streak causes the laird to cancel the marriage. And though her plans have gone awry, she refuses to return home...
Lachlan is laird of the Balmoral clan - and leader of his pack. One of the most feared werewolves prowling the Highlands; he is on the march against the hated Sinclairs, who have abducted a Balmoral woman. He kidnaps the sister of the Sinclair laird, planning to marry her off in revenge - but the woman he takes along with her proves to be the greater prize...
For Emily feeds a desire he never knew existed. And though Lachlan would not think of marrying a human - he must know how a mere woman could tame his heart so easily...
Why would someone want to take care of their own mistakes when they have daughters that they can marry off? This psuedo-cinderella tale contains an irresponsible father who would prefer sons and of course an evil stepmother not to mention a deaf sister, a stepbrother and stepsister who is barely a babe herself.
Emily, like most girls stuck in quiet and demur seminaries - reading and opinions in the medieval time were simply uncalled for, was a snoop. Upon such an escapade, she came upon a plot to get 'even' with the English King. He would just send one of his daughters to wed the barbaric King of the Sinclairs, a tribe in the highlands, his and the King's enemy. The father would lose any power or money gained from the marriage and the highland king would have to marry an 'English' woman, a word even more foul than a wanton whore's bastard child.
Emily deems herself the responsible one and takes it upon herself to 'volunteer' to be the one sent instead of her deaf sister. All said and done, the stepmother is of course thrilled that her precious child is not going and it seems that Emily's father does not care of his daughter's wellbeing.
The 'English' girl gets there, ticks off the laird by calling him a goat, and promptly the wedding is called off. Now what is a girl to do? She befriends the pregnant sister of the laird by being herself, calling the laird several names which of course shows that she has 'fire/spunk/balls' thus making her at least a very feral human. The rest of the tribe decides to act cold to her because after all nothing was gained by the marriage on either side, she having to marry the enemy. Miss English and the laird's sister go out of the keep with a guard accompanying them and what happens? They get kidnapped before they are able to bathe. They are taken off kicking and screaming to ... the OTHER tribe's laird's castle of doom that is stuck beyond a deep lake and up a high mountain. Surely they are set for many years in that particular new clan.
Emily continues being her spitfire self only to begin finding her virginal self drawn to the horrid laird. Didn't someone say that the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Well at some point they finally start to grow on one another, she being a complete and total rude bitch and he being the typical male leader except for the whole him being a werewolf thing. One thing leads to another and while those two are trying to start a possible relationship we have the newlywed pregnant warrior femwolf dealing with that and of course the threat of war from the other tribe. And where is Emily's father in all of this, is her sister okay and will her step mother ever get the payback she so richly deserves?
I will admit that I am not really one for romances however this one piqued my interest. The sex scenes were full of intense, raw and feral energy that was quite enjoyable to read and I was only disappointed with two words in the whole novel, one of them being 'spurt'...that is never a sexy word. Of course the novel was about werewolves...in the highlands...hot wild men...in kilts...with nothing underneath...yeah, this book was bound to be a good one. With such sweltering fully primal passages and very in-depth warrior plot full of such details as rank, honor and duties touched with the obvious conflicts of tradition and modern changes, I cannot help but recommend this book to others.
Oh and this is another series that I'm going to have to make sure to watch so that I can wrap my paws around the next novel.
