Allyson Beatrice lives a not-quite-ordinary life. Her job and almost everyone she knows are the result of spending too much time on the Internet talking about vampires, slayers and lesbian witches. And her encounters are even more unusual than you'd imagine. A hilarious collection of true stories from Allyson's days as one of the Internet's leading cult TV fan gurus, her mind-boggling escapades include meetings with network executives in dark steakhouses to try to save doomed TV shows and one hastily arranged wedding for two committed Buffy fans. ...

Being a fellow geek myself, I truly understand where Beatrice comes from. I've never been a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS), but it won't matter in order to enjoy this insightful romp through the 'net. If you have ever spent time in an online community for any length of time, you'll know that mayhem is just a mouse click away, an all-out flame war could ensue with the next message board posting. Seriously now, who can pass up beating a troll over the head with his/her own stupidity? Not me.

My life spins around this little box of mine and in every essay, it is easy to recognize myself in some form or another. I've found plenty of comfort, amusement, true friendship -- and a husband -- through my journeys online. In this collection of essays, Beatrice deftly covers these aspects...and much more. Some of her adventures are LOL hilarious, some are poignant (double dog dare you not to get sniffly over "Random Acts of Paypal.") All of them are told with plenty of snarky wit and heart.

If anyone ever says "you spend too much time online," give them a copy of this book. If you do spend too much time online, definitely pick up this book for yourself.

I hope this isn't the last time I hear from Allyson Beatrice...
