Ciarran D'Arbois is a member of The Compact of Sorcerers, a brotherhood charged with guarding the wall between the human and demon realms with only their fellow members to rely upon during times of battle. It is during a battle that had killed two humans that Ciarran comes into contact with Clea Masters...just a child at the time, but she changes him when he accidentally reaches one hand into the demon realm and she “steals” part of his power in exchange. With that exchange, Ciarran is left with part of demon living inside him.
And that's the prologue.
Twenty years later, there is a traitor in the midst of this brotherhood and Ciarran has set out to rescue Clea yet again. But circumstances are far different from that one night. Clea has no memory of him and she is definitely not a child...nor is she aware she has powers of her own. When these two collide again? Sparks are flying all over the place and the connection is undeniable.
And a very nasty demon has figured out Clea is the key to opening to the door between this world and theirs. That is not a good thing – capture Clea and all Hell will (literally) break loose. To add to an already deadly situation, Ciarran must deal with the ever-growing demon within himself.
That's all you're getting when it comes to plot, character, or any other yummy tidbits.
Honor, fidelity, brotherhood, doing the right thing....sounds like recruitment for the Marine Corps. A maiden in distress. In lesser hands, this would be just another hackneyed love story, just add flames and/or deadly threat du jour. However, Eve Silver has penned a great story.
The characters of Ciarran and Clea are an excellent match and the romance is sexy, sweet, and smoking hot (no pun intended.) The plot never stalls along the way, keeping my interest from page one. And – high praise here – the bad guys are really really bad. It's hard to make bad guys come across as truly evil these days, but the demons of this author's world are top-notch.
As a huge bonus, this is Book One of a series. Grab it now, and prepare to be hooked...
