In C. L. Wilson’s Lord of the Fading Lands, Ellysetta is torn between a love that she could have and her family. Their courtship will prove tedious and complicated but hopefully in the end not only will their hearts be united but the battle-scarred lands.

King Rain Tairen Soul destroys half of the world when his mate is killed in the war. He was still grieving over this when he finds out he is the first Tairen Soul to have a soul mate. Soon his soul mate, Ellysetta, unknowingly calls to him when another man tries to force her to kiss him. Before Rain can get to her, she is thrown into a betrothal with the man who forces a mark upon her. As Rain arrives in her city a whirlwind of events transpire as Ellysetta’s family has to appear in court so that the betrothal can be broken allowing Rain can claim her as his soul mate and his betrothed. With her fey quintet following her everywhere she goes, everything seems to be going as smoothly as a betrothal can. Soon events and people begin to conspire against the couple as they are courting.

I absolutely loved Lord of the Fading Lands. Wilson captures my attention and keeps it. The characters are interesting and different than any other book that I’ve read. Wilson is very descriptive with her writing. It’s not too much that it overbears your own imagination but she helps you create the image in your mind. I am definitely reading her sequel, Lady of Light and Shadows.
