21860811.JPGEmma Porter has just been asked to become the new personal assistant to Alex Keltner. Alex is the CEO of Keltner Industries and, despite the daunting nature of the job, Emma decides to take the position. The first activity of her new position will have her at Alex's mansion for several days, playing liaison to a dozen or so eccentric and rather mismatched guests.

It's at this party that Emma notices a lot of rather unusual activity and the guests begin seeming to be something other than they claim to be. There's a lot of twisted sexual activity going on, guests and mansion employees go missing and Alex's former PA, who was supposed to have just quit and moved back home, has been spotted at the mansion. Emma finds herself drawn into the mystery and, once her host's truly demonic nature becomes known, finds she may be unable to get away from the mansion and the secrets the partygoers possess.

The book is called Demon Eyes and is authored by L. H. Maynard and M. P. N. Sims and I'll give you one guess what the demons' weakness is. And by demons I may mean ugly telepathic miscreant, psychic shape-shifting vampire or shaven werewolf, since the description of the monsters is vague enough to be any of the above. You would think that with twice the amount of author of most books, these two guys would be able to hit it out of the park with something original and incredibly hard to put down, but Demon Eyes is forgettable at best and really does not endeavor to bring anything new or different to the horror genre.

The book itself wasn't bad, it was written well and although the two author's styles are distinctive, they mesh well and the flow of the novel remains uninterrupted; it's more so the fact that they didn't really do much more than go through the motions and turn in an average book. Understandably, they're only going to get half a paycheck for doing half the work, but it doesn't justify putting in a half-assed effort. An average effort only garners average marks and based on this first exposure to both writers, I honestly need to admit that I would not be in the least interested in spending any of my leisure reading time on either author; if they're not willing to put forth the effort, neither am I.
