The Greek gods are among us and it seems that they are no better then mortals when it comes to the failings that often bring us low. In the second novel in her Dream Hunters series, Sherrilyn Kenyon shows us that pride, envy, and even pain have godly antecedents. When they suffer themselves to be called to the mortal plane the resulting fallout could mean catastrophe for gods and mortals alike as the Christmas season reaches its culmination.

Aidan O'Conner rose to the top of the celebrity scrap-heap but never lost his good-nature or desire to give freely of his time and money. It's only after his brother makes an attempt on Aidan's life that he is forced to come face-to-face with his family's true money-grubbing desires. He walls himself away from the world and stops caring about those that professed to care about him, even the ones that truly did. Unbeknownst to Aidan however, his brother Donny has found a way to summon the ancient Greek god Pain and he will use Pain to have his revenge on Aidan unless the Dream-Hunter Leta can return Pain to the prison she placed him in centuries beforehand. Leta will need all Aidan's rage and anger over his family's betrayal as fuel to fight the fled pain god and protect Aidan but the two will have to do something the both vowed they never would again; they will have to trust in someone else.

To continue with the Christmas theme, this book reminded me of a cup of peppermint-schnapps-spiked hot cocoa. It was warm and smooth; it had a nice kick, it went down easy but it didn't trouble your head and it didn't make you walk away with any questions afterwards. It was fun and sweet and good for the season. I was already a fan of the Dream Hunters series so this was a nice second piece. Now bring me more!!
