Laird of the Mist: Paula QuinnThe feud between the Campbells and the MacGregors has been waged for longer than anyone can remember. When Kate Campbell finds her home being raided, she takes action and fights to defend what she loves most. What she doesn't expect is an angel that saves her from a killing blow. When she later finds out that the "angel" is her sworn enemy, she finds herself torn between the man that she sees before her eyes and "The Devil" that has caused her family so much pain.

Callum MacGregor is the most feared laird in Scotland. His reputation for revenge and ruthlessness has earned earned him the moniker of "The Devil". What starts as a means for revenge by holding Kate for ransom quickly backfires when he finds his heart in the grips of the niece of his most hated adversary.

Overly cheesy cover art aside, let's just get down to the nitty gritty:

Without a doubt, there is plenty of conflict afoot to keep the story rolling in this book. The antagonistic stances between Kate and Callum served to not only draw the reader into the plot, but also added more sizzle to their entanglement. Neither were quick to throw all caution to the wind in the name of passion either. The mistrust and resentment between the two was thick. It was only over time that they began to see each other in a different light, and it was their actions, not their lust that showed the true grit of their characters to each other. This not only lent more credibility to the relationship, but also more steam to the romance.

And what better way to compliment engaging main characters and a solid plot, but to add in a few entertaining secondary players? The antics of Callum's clansmen added entertainment and a touch of humor to the dynamics of the clan. From the brawling, drunken Angus, to the sweet-tempered Jamie, these characters stepped up to the plate to keep things moving along where transitions in the story could have otherwise become stagnant.

After this tasty little morsel, I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for the next installment by Paula Quinn.
