The History of Lucy's Love Life in Ten and a Half Chapters: Deborah Wright
It becomes apparent to Lucy that she needs a change when she finds herself fantasizing about Lord Byron and Casanova more then her own boyfriend. When they agree to take a break Lucy takes it harder then she thought she would until she makes a discovery. An invention has just been delivered to her boss and for Lucy it looks to be the answer to all her dreams. More then likely it will prove the adage "Be careful what you wish for".

Lucy and Anthony were both commitment-phobes when they began seeing each other. What was supposed to be a one-night stand turned into two nights, then two weeks and then became two years. Lucy has spent so much of her life steeping herself in classic love poetry that it seems no one she dates is ever really right. Anthony begins to drain on her but when he agrees they should take a break it hits her harder then she thought it would. At the same time, an ex-lover of her scientist boss has just sent her his latest invention, a time machine. Her boss doesn't want it so Lucy takes it home. On a lark she fires it up and finds herself in 1813 and face-to-face with Lord Byron. As Lucy flashes back and forth through time, getting to know the quirks and true faces of the men she has idolized she begins to see how much she truly loved Anthony. Unfortunately for her she may have come by her wisdom to late. Anthony has moved on, for better or worse, and Lucy might not be able to get him back.

While the concept for the story was cute, and the writing had it's funny moments, there really wasn't anything startlingly fabulous about this book. It wasn't bad mind you; it simply wasn't all that terrific. I would put it in the class of something to read if you're bored while on the beach over Spring Break. It won't win any prizes but it is sweet and the characterization of Lord Byron coming forward into our time and being a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother was actually quite amusing. That alone makes it worth picking up.
