We Have Ways of Making You Laugh: 120 Funny Swastika Cartoons: S. Gross
Rating: 1 star
We Have Ways of Making You Laugh: 120 Funny Swastika Cartoons is exactly what the title makes it out to be: 120 cartoons based on the swastika. The cartoons either have a swastika involved in their punchline or feature a swastika made a mockery of so as to diminish the power of the symbol and elicit a feeling other than contempt from the average reader.
Seeing as how there are really only 4 punchlines to any swastika/Nazi joke, We Have Ways of Making you laugh gets repetitive fast, despite only taking about 7 minutes to read. I chuckled at a couple of them but generally rolled my eyes or thought to myself, "Yeah, you used the same joke 5 cartoons ago."
The only thing you can really say about the book is that it's anti-Nazi and not anti-Semitic, although that's kind of a dead giveaway by the title. I have a couple of friends who are SHARPs (SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice) and in a band, so I think the true humor here will be presenting them the book in the middle of one of their shows and seeing what they do to it.
For everybody who can't be there, just take a few minutes at the bookstore, read this in its entirety and then think to yourself "Why did the Nazi skinhead drive off a cliff? Because he couldn't turn left."
