Flight Explorer, Volume One: edited by Kazu Kibuishi

Flight Explorer, Volume One: edited by Kazu KibuishiFlight Explorer Volume 1 is a graphic novel collection of stories from various contributors to the Harvey Award-winning Flight series. Flight Explorer aims for the younger reader and presents one-short stories of recurring characters from the Flight series, such as Kean Soo's Jellaby, Jake Parker's Missle Mouse and Ben Hatke's Zita the Spacegirl. Those three, as well as editor Kazu Kibuishi's Copper story are the standout pieces, but I honestly enjoyed all the entries in this volume. All the stories vary in genre, tone, technique and length but they all have one common thread: to entertain. And that they do.

Honestly, it's a refreshing change of pace to pick up a book geared towards children and get that warm feeling you get when you think about being little. Remember back then, when everything was possible, disbelief was permanently suspended and the biggest problem in your life was not being bored? Well, Flight Explorer succeeds in taking you back to then, especially the 'not bored' part, and if you have little ones at home, I can pretty much guarantee it'll keep them not bored over and over again until Volume 2 gets released. There's nothing too challenging for little minds in it, nothing too scary, just ten stories that'll make them (and you) smile. Good job, guys, keep ‘em coming.
