Rating: 4 1/2 stars (Spotlight Review)
Jaz Parks and her boss Vayl have been through five kinds of hell on their previous missions but nothing could have prepared them for what's coming; Vayl has received a request from the head of his former Vampere Trust to return and infiltrate it. They've been receiving advances from Edward "The Raptor" Samos, a psychotic and deadly vampire that Jaz has come up against in the past. An advance from Samos means only one thing; control for Samos and eventual destruction of the Trust.
Vayl and Jaz agree to to make the trip to Greece. Her brother David, emotionally unstable after his ordeal with the international terrorist known as the Wizard, is sent as their backup. Immediately after they arrive they find that the trust has been trapping and pit-fighting Weres. Jaz is also made aware of Vayl's former and very close tie with the new Trust leader.
This is not going to be pretty.
As tensions flare, Jaz must force herself to keep her gun holstered and her brother sober, even as she watches the new Trust leader attempting to sink the talons of the Trust into Vayl once more. Threads of magic lay woven deeply around the Trust compound and Jaz has only her boys to help her this time, until she makes some new friends, as Jaz always seems to do.
Jaz isn't sure that any of this will be enough to save Vayl however when they find out just how far the new Trust leader has come and how far she is willing to go to keep Vayl and retain control of the Trust.
Though the books are enjoyable when the whole gang is involved, sometimes it can be overly busy so it's nice to get one like this. The interplay between Jaz and David is priceless and the interspersed text and phone conversations with the others helps keep them involved but not to much.
I do have to say however, if the sexual tension between Jaz and Vayl continues to escalate with no reprieve in sight, Jaz isn't the only one who's going to be setting random psychic fires.
