Catopolis: Martin H. Greenberg & Janet Deaver-Pack, editorsIt's a well-known fact that cats have their own lives and hierarchies. They do their own special thing when we aren't around and we never really know what's going on, until now. In Catopolis seventeen authors take a deeper look at the lives of cats, and how they run their worlds.

Yes, I said seventeen authors. That's seventeen stories of kitty-kat goodness.

Though not all of the stories were winners, there were quite a few that will entertain even the most discerning of readers. There is a Sex and the City spoof, appropriately called Kitty and the City that chronicles the lives of four well-heeled (well-pawed?) cats and the romance of Cassie and Mr. Big Paws. In Old Age and Sorcery an elderly feline magician must work his greatest spell to save the lives of a feline warlord and his family. The true story of kitties who blog comes out in Ink and Newsprint though I dare any reader not to get teary-eyed at the end. We are also presented with cats in a war-torn country in The Persian, The Coon, and Bullets.

Though, as I said, not every one is quite a winner, those are few enough. This is a truly charming collection that actually made me laugh and cry. Believe me when I say that's not easy to do anymore. Cat-lovers cannot truly say that they know cats until they read this little book.
