A Dirk & Steele novel …
She opens her eyes only to have visions of death greet her. She has no memory of who she or the mysterious fatalities are, or of how she arrived. The only thing that she knows is that she is overwhelmed with the urge to flee, but in no specific direction – to run, and to keep running, until she can run no more … and then, to keep on limping. The only clue that she is left as to her circumstances is a crumpled note pinned on her jacket, stating that very urge.
When Lannes Hannelore finds the injured young amnesiac, he breaks away from his chosen life of a hermit and takes ‘Lethe’ in. Now he will attempt to help to retrieve her secrets … without revealing his own.
This is an interesting look into defrosting a gargoyle’s heart of stone, as well as how an amnesiac copes with living day-to-day life, and whether or not – in some instances – an amnesia victim may really want to remember their previous life. Lethe illustrates the fact that blood does not always ring true.
Lannes, on the other hand, is used as a prime example of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover." All cliché’s aside, though, this is a wonderfully written novel with a mythic who-dun-it twist, and has more than enough suspense to keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
