39-year old Pia Thompson thought that a European cruise might land her the man she's been looking for. What she didn't count on was becoming entangled with two Dark Ones and a cult that is set on the destruction of the Dark Ones. Pia finds herself with more men then she can handle and a case of terribly mistaken identity.
After inadvertently picking up an ancient artifact Pia begins to see ghosts that are looking for the light. When the two Dark Ones that are in town learn of this they converge on Pia. One wants to love her up but the other just wants her supposed-powers nullified. She must also contend with a member of the cult who believes he must marry her to activate her powers. Caught in a web that she doesn't understand, Pia finds herself falling for both of the Dark Ones and doesn't know which way to turn.
While I generally enjoy Katie MacAlister, this time I found myself disappointed in the heroine and the plot. Pia spends entirely too much time agonizing over being "pudgy" and the usual sarcastic humor and wit that I've come to expect is missing. Pia is simply following along with what happens and never really puts up much of a fight. The men that she is caught between leave something to be desired as well.
Though MacAlister's previous books have been enjoyable must-reads, this one is simply flat and rather lackluster. It was an unfortunate and unforeseen disappointment.
