Still reeling from the loss of his wife to cancer, P.I. Remy Chandler has found himself withdrawn, pulling away from his friends and even his business. As the Seraphim inside him fights to gain dominance Remy begins to wonder if continuing as a human is even worth it anymore. When he is approached to locate a cache of ancient weapons that has been stolen, he finds himself drawn back into the world of the angels and the conflict that seethes always beneath the surface.
As Remy begins to investigate the theft of the weapons, he learns that they they are much more then he has been told. Indeed, their origins lay with the very fallen angel that resides at the heart of the entire conflict. When he finally comes into contact with the weapons he is shocked by their sentience and the way his Seraphim nature fights to use the weapons and wage holy destruction. Remy struggles to control his true nature as he untangles a deep web that is being laid by those angels who originally came to Earth determined not to fight even as they questioned the very nature of existence. It seems that they have arrived at an answer to their question and it doesn't bode well for the Earth and its inhabitants.
This is a solid follow-up to A Kiss Before the Apocalypse. Remy Chandler is a believable and truly likable character. His love for humanity and his struggles against his inner nature only add to his appeal. The writing is spot-on, with plenty of humor to keep the drama from becoming too intense. I'm also particularly fond of the angelic aerial battles. They are extremely well-written and serve to show these majestic creatures as the warriors that they are supposed to be. This is an extremely entertaining and engaging series and I expect only good things from future releases.
