Just How Do Affirmations Work: May SinclairSinclair notes that the first action to getting what you want is to state your desire. The second action is to believe it is possible to have that desire fulfilled. The third action is for you to be willing to actually have your desire fulfilled. It is believed that everything and everyone on this planet is connected; that the universal connection accepts our desires, beliefs and willingness in order to create a desired result. Not achieving the desired result is usually an issue of conflict between the desire, the belief of possibility and willingness.

An example of affirmation conflict is being in a troubled relationship and stating your desire for a happy one. Without the belief that you can achieve this, as well as the willingness to allow this desire to be fulfilled – perhaps by letting go of the relationship you’re currently in—you cause a block, preventing the desired result. Simply stating what we think we want isn’t the answer. We have to truly want it and then believe that we are truly worthy of having it.

JHDAW didn’t come across so much as a “how to” book, but more of a “why” book. Sinclair tries to help the reader understand the difference between what you think you want and what you’re actually willing to do for it; while giving a little more insight to how our own affirmations, beliefs and needs actually play into the whole “ask and the universe will provide” situation. However, Sinclair does provide guidance on how to find out what it is you truly believe. The author notes her own experience with dream interpretation, numerology, astrology, journaling, meditation and the use of positive affirmations helped her get to know herself and change her life for the better.

Those of us who often look deep into ourselves to try and make the most of our time in this world and find our own purpose will find this book an affirmation in itself of the path we have already begun. However, there are times when stress and life in general cloud our minds and throw us off track. This book is a helpful tool in helping to get things back on track.
