The first chapter of Detectives Don't Wear Seat Belts opens with Cici McNair getting fingerprinted on her first day at the agency; a quick glimpse into what will be the first of many in the private detective field. From here, we are brought back in time to the previous February where -- determined to become a PI -- she begins her search for a job. However the field is packed with former cops, she has zero experience and most of the people she speaks with want nothing to do with her.
She gets one piece of advice from most of them before they hang up on her: do not work with a certain detective, he is referred to as "poison." As time goes by she studies and attends seminars; one with this very detective who gives her the break she needs. Finally begins her adventure into the world of a PI.
From New York to Mississippi and back again, Cici hones her skills and becomes a new person as needed and having many great advenutes before settling into the world of car chases and undercover. Throughout the pages, you learn about her heart-wrenching past in Mississippi with a tyrant father, her ill treatment by her siblings and a loving mother. She ran away from home fairly young; going to school, traveling the world. Her colleagues become more like family than the little she has left.
Well written with great detail, Detectives Don’t Wear Seat Belts will make you laugh, cry, and scream. Your emotions will run the gauntlet as you follow this black sheep into a new world where she finally gains acceptance. Now a proven detective with her own office, the story has really just begun. Start from the beginning of the story and don’t stop, because her adventure is far from over.
