Rating: 4 1/2 stars (Spotlight Review)
The House of Lost Souls opens with Nick Mason, covered in camouflage, watching his sister at the funeral of her classmate. But among the mourners this trained soldier sees something unreal that spooks even him. Paul Seaton is on the bus when he feels its return. It has been years since the heavy presence has made itself known. He is once again drawn into its web...Evil is back!
Five have recently entered the Fischer House. One is already dead, another has tried to take her own life; Nick Mason's sister, in fact. Dr. Malcolm Covey has contacted Mason, who is desperate to save his sister. Now Seaton, posing as a trauma psychologist, will visit the Mason home to help. But Paul Seaton has no degree in psychology. He is the only person who has ever survived a visit to the Fischer House.
A ride from the moment you pick it up, The House of Lost Souls doesn't let up. I found myself not wanting to put this book down for anything as my mind tried to work through the many mysteries long after it left my hands. This book does not leave the psyche and will keep you coming back to its secrets long after the pages are finally closed. The writing is superb with flawless changes between time and character voice. No matter who the narrator is, the voice sounds perfect in your head. This book doesn't back down until its surprising conclusion brings everything together. You will not soon forget your visit to The House of Lost Souls. A definite must read!
