Blood Moon: Bryan CassidayWith more human killers than the supernatural kind, Blood Moon holds a special attraction for CIA themed stories; but, includes hitmen, vampires and cannibalistic senators as well. Written in an accessible style and a voice reminiscent of campfire ghost stories, there's something for everyone.

The first two stories, "Contract Killer" and "The Cheshire Cat" were hit-men themed and extremely dialogue heavy. "Feast of Bones" was about a California senator with a taste for the young ladies -- literally. Although this story wasn't as dialogue-driven, it was big on the SAT words; which, I actually had to look up two: pudenda and rufous. I found out I possess a pudenda and I definitely don't want it to be rufous.

"Torment" features an a-hole boss who is out of his mind. This entry was a bit more on the gross side and not for the easily queasy; for example, Boss Frank is constantly blowing his bloody nose, bleeds wherever he scratches--and he scratches a lot--as well as making one of the workers lick up his phlegm. Mmmmm.

As usual, there are weaker stories; and, as usual, I'm not going to point them out. As with most short-story compilations, the entertainment value depends on the individual's personal taste.

Although the stories weren't "scary", they were interesting and compelling; urging the reader on to see what happens next. At times, the writing tended to over-explain the plot-line, but Blood Moon still managed to succeed at being one of the better short-story collections.
