The 13th: John Everson Castle House Lodge, an age old exclusive resort known for two things: a century old hotel, once the destination of the rich and famous and now the home of many ghost stories and rumours amongst the locals of Castle Point; the result of a grisly bloodbath 25 years ago.

After years of neglect the old hotel has new tenants; Dr. Rockford has reopened it as a private asylum for pregnant women.

David Shale is spending the summer with his favourite aunt in Castle Point. After missing his spot on the Olympic cycling team, David has vowed to spend the summer training in the hills around Castle Point. During a ride, David is nearly killed by an undercover cop, Christy Sorenson, one of three police officers in the small town. David heads out to the local bar to drown his sorrows and meets the authoritative, defiant, spunky girl of his dreams-- Brenda Bean. Brenda and David seem to click in an instant and spend the evening drinking and getting to know each other. David passes out at the bar and when he comes to, Brenda is nowhere to be found.

Christy meets David for a second time while investigating the disappearance of Brenda. During the search for Brenda, other women, both local and from neighbouring towns, are disappearing. What, if anything, do they have in common? Will David be able to find the girl he has just met? Are the patients at Castle House Lodge really insane or does the good Dr. Rockford have something else in mind for them?

From the rapes, beatings, and kidnappings of women by the “Terror Twins” to the mysterious goings on at Castle House Lodge you are in for a ride of blood curdling proportions. Throughout this book there is violence and perversion that rivals no other book or movie I have seen before. Not one to cringe, I found myself feeling physical ill at some of the descriptive scenes portrayed; yet I also felt drawn with a need to read the next page only putting it down for dinner. Prepare yourselves for a fast paced ride like never before that will leave you breathless, scared and wanting more all the way. Not having read any of this author's previous books, I am definitely looking forward to the next one!
