Ian Spector sounds like a walking oxymoron: a graduate of Brown University where he studied neuroscience and edited the campus humor magazine… Doesn’t seem right somehow. However, this isn’t my first neuroscience party.
Michael Graziano, Prof. of Neuroscience at Princeton and author of The Love Song Monkey has already proven that just because you study the brain doesn’t mean you can’t have a sense of humor—his alter ego is children’s book author and giant, hairy orangutan B.B. Wurge.
Spector started with the creation of Chuck Norris Facts website, going on to write The Truth About Chuck Norris, resulting in a resurgence of all things Chuck. Next came Chuck Norris Vs. Mr. T and now Spector has added Chuck Norris Cannot Be Stopped: 400 All-New Facts About the Man Who Knows Neither Fear Nor Mercy to round out the “thrillogy”.
Admittedly, I am not a Chuck Norris fan and the book reminded me of the Jack Bauer websites and emails that were making the rounds. Despite who was “first” in creating these sites, I have to give props just for the thought and time that went into them.
Due to my aforementioned indifference to Chuck Norris, I was going to pass on this book, but decided to give it a quick glance; and ended up sitting in my office laughing like an idiot. Is the book immature? Yes. Does it cross the line at times? Probably. Is it funny? Absolutely.
