Tara Sheridan is a criminal profiler who uses science and Tarot cards to track down dangerous criminals. A few years ago Tara’s cards led her to a deranged serial killer, which resulted in Tara being drugged, sliced from head to toe with a Hori-Hori knife and buried alive.
After her near-fatal ordeal, Tara withdrew from profiling and took solace in her secluded cabin in the Tennessee woods with only her cat to keep her company, as she contemplated her future.
When a woman from the secret society of oracles asked Tara for help finding a scientist who developed a very dangerous technology—harnessing the dark matter that makes black holes—for a military faction of the government, Tara reluctantly agrees.
Partnered with Det. Harry Li, the duo attempts to work the case. However, luck is not on their side, as a high-intensity explosion has left very little evidence behind and the military is stonewalling them every step of the way. Tara and Li delve deeper, but the closer they get to the truth, the more danger their lives are in.
Williams does a good job of keeping this urban fantasy moving along at a rapid clip. Tara and Li have an interesting chemistry, which adds a positive element to the story. With enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and enough action to keep the pages turning, Dark Oracle doesn’t disappoint.
