Dick and Jane and Vampires: Jaura Marchesani and Tommy Hunt Although our maturity level here at BookFetish may fall somewhere between the ages of 4-8, we usually don’t cover books for that age bracket. However, we’ve made an exception for Dick and Jane and Vampires just for the kitsch of it.

While maintaining the nostalgic elements of Dick and Jane that we all know and love, a current twist has been added in the form of a new friend. At first, Vampire evades the family in bat form, but eventually becomes comfortable enough to assimilate himself into their home; playing with the kids, getting his blood delivered by the milkman and even going on picnics with the family.

Despite the reading patterns staying the same, I was hoping for an illustration or two of Vampire going in for a friendly nibble on Mom’s neck; alas, it was not to be. Apparently, this also concerned Dad, because by the end of the book Dick and Jane are presenting Vampire with his very own vampress… Oops, sorry. *Spoiler alert*…

Maybe for the next book G&D will do Vampires Babysit Dick and Jane. Things are so much more fun when Mom and Dad aren’t around.

So whether you’ve got a child just learning to read or want to brush up on your own skills, Dick and Jane and Vampires will provide minutes and minutes of fun for the whole family.
