Fuck It: John C. Parkin John Parkin’s book caught my eye for two reasons: the title goes without saying, but it’s also one of my favorite phrases.

A nice change from the new-agey, too-serious spiritual books, Fuck It takes a more direct route for immediate gratification—without all that hippy meditation/visualization stuff.

Although the book is meant as a stop-taking-yourself-and-life-too-seriously-or-the-stress-will-kill-you, light-hearted approach to a more carefree life-style, I can’t say I agree with everything that Fuck It recommends.

If your mom, boyfriend or BFF is giving you grief, then by all means, blow it off and relax. However, saying “fuck it” to money issues… not so good. Some might get the wrong idea of what Parkin is saying. I don’t think Parkin meant that if you’re in danger of losing your house to foreclosure that you should just say, “Fuck it”; and then sit on the couch watching Sponge Bob with your newly-found inner-peace.

Being one with the fact that your life is out of control and spiraling towards total destitution and perhaps even homelessness is one thing—and, even though said acceptance may help you get a handle on those psychotic episodes you’ve been having due to the financial strain—once that inner calm has been successfully reached, you really have to do something about the money problem.

I really had planned on saying more about Parkin’s book, but time is short, it’s a nice day outside and I really don’t feel like typing. So I say fu… Well, you know what I’m going to say.
