Sins of the Demon: Diana Rowland Sins of the Demon is the fourth book in Diana Rowland’s series about Beaulac, Louisiana police detective Kara Gilligan, who has the ability to summon demons from another realm.

The supernatural aspect is lighter than in past books, but more involved with the investigation of the crime; and, this time, the crime is more personal for Kara as the victims are people from her past who have wronged her or her family in some way.

Kara also has a demon bodyguard, Eilahn, assigned to her by her demon lover, Rhyskahl, a very powerful demonic lord. Kara tries her best to keep her summoning a secret, but it’s getting more difficult. Her best friend, FBI Special Agent Ryan Kristoff—who she's very attracted to—knows her secret. However, Kara knows something Ryan doesn’t: that he too is a demon—and a doozy of one at that—which leaves Kara conflicted about telling him.

Meanwhile, Kara must figure out who's using summoning magic and killing people from her past. At least she isn’t on her own. Not only does she have Ryan and Eilahn as backup, but her good human friend Jill and a stray cat named Fuzzykins who can ferret out demons. As Kara gets closer to the truth, she unveils some facts not only about her parents and her grandmother, but someone she thought she knew very well is also keeping deadly secrets that could get her killed.

Fans of Diana Rowland will most likely enjoy this latest in the series. Although the supernatural elements here are far and few between, and don’t really kick in until the very end, I did enjoy how Kara uses her intuition and detective skills. Unfortunately Rhyzkahl makes one short appearance that felt tacked on, and I was a bit confused as to who is targeting Kara and why. I’m hoping this will be explained better in the next book.

Speaking of the ending, it has a humdinger of a cliffhanger that will have you anxious for more. You will never expect what happens to Kara and I can’t wait to see how she gets out of the situation she’s in. I have a feeling whatever comes, it will be explosive and one I hope Ms. Rowland can pull it off.

I look forward to more from Kara and next time hope for more sexy moments with her demon lord who may be the only one who can help her embrace all that she is and more.
