Rules of Engagement

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: We have two varieties: part-time and full-time. Part-time reviewers are expected to contribute one review every month. As a full-time member, we require at least two per month. The editorial staff and senior writers are power readers, posting a minimum of three per month. Not everyone reads at that pace but if you think you can hold your own in league with the power readers, then by all means rock our world. Be honest about your capabilities, and hold up your end of the bargain.

CONTENT: The priorities of Book Fetish are new releases and reviews of advance reading copies (ARC) received from publishers, publicists, and sometimes the authors themselves. They take up a large chunk of prime real estate on this site, but this does not mean you cannot read and review your own titles. If it is an older title, the publishing date must be within a reasonable time frame unless approved by the Editor.

REVIEWING: As a new member, your reviews must be submitted to the Editor for approval before publication. Yes, it is a screening process; we can't let just anybody in here with a keyboard and an attitude.

As you can see from the site design, we are not a gaggle of prudes. We swear like truck drivers and not above being blunt to the point of pain in our opinions. They are written in every style, from off-the-cuff to insightful. However, we have high standards, and we expect intelligent critique. Please read our Standards, along with our Scheduling and Submissions guidelines before sending in your application.

TITLE AVAILABILITY

The Editor-in-Chief receives several books each month, and they are distributed to our U.S. members on a regular basis according to favorite genre, reading speed, and release dates. They range from (mostly) good to excellent, however this does not mean you will escape reading horrible titles best suited for use by a budding arsonist. If the editors must suffer through such torture, so will you. In rare cases we have the opportunity to choose our own reviewing material and request the title(s) be sent directly to the reviewer, but a large majority of ARCs are sent to the Editor for distribution. We have procedures for this too: Selection and Shipping

This game is not free. You will need to pony up $20.00 for the shipping costs of any titles you take on. Shipping is by USPS flat rate priority, with 2-day delivery. Envelope (usually one book) is $4.60USD; flat rate boxes are $8.95. Once the amount of your account is depleted, reload. We accept Paypal if you'd like to whip out your credit or debit card. Mind you, this is for U.S. residents only. Postage for shipping out of the U.S. requires an arm and leg and possibly your firstborn child (or beloved pet.)

THE GRAY AREAS: We make allowances for members -- if you have to switch from full-time to part-time, we're not going to burn you at the stake. We only ask that you let us know if you need to make a change. We all have lives, but you have to stick to your membership requirements and review obligations.
